CARD 201 Cardiovascular Pharmacology

This course is designed to prepare cardiovascular students to choose, handle, and administer the numerous cardiovascular and related medications utilized in invasive cardiology. The general principles of pharmacology such as pharmacokinetics, dose calculations, mode of action, and routes of administration will be discussed. The indications and contraindications of medications used in the management of cardiovascular diseases will be evaluated. Students will also develop global competence when comparing the pharmaceutical industry in other parts of the world in relation to the United States.

3. Define indications and contraindications for medications used in the management of cardiac diseases.
4. Discuss mode of action of medications used in cardiac diseases.
5. Identify appropriate routes of administration of medications used in cardiac diseases.
6. Explain universal healthcare and the global impact on the cost of cardiac prescription drugs.
7. Discuss how the human experience and cost of cardiac prescription drugs is shaped by global forces.
8. Analyze the interconnectedness of global cost of cardiac prescription drugs between universal healthcare systems and that of the United States.
