CARD 231 Clinical Practicum I

The purpose of this course is to acclimate students to the hospital clinical environment. Students will demonstrate professional attributes of a Cardiovascular Technologist. The student will perform the circulating role during cardiac procedures ensuring patient safety, sterility, and knowledge of procedure equipment and flow.

24 hours a week hospital clinical for 7 weeks

Course Objectives

  1. Demonstrate the ability to maintain medical and surgical asepsis in a hospital setting.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to select and prepare equipment for cardiovascular procedures in a sterile manner.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to communicate with patients and collaborate with other health team members.
  4. Perform safety procedures for hospital/cardiac catheterization including patient positioning, patient transfer, safety checks, and pulse checks during cardiovascular procedures a hospital setting.
  5. Perform the circulating role during cardiovascular procedures in a hospital setting.
  6. Demonstrate the professional attributes of a Cardiovascular Technologist in a hospital setting.
