CARD 220 Cardiovascular Procedures

The purpose of this course is to prepare students to enter the Invasive Cardiovascular Laboratory. Students will learn the concepts of the general diagnostic, therapeutic, and interventional procedures performed in the modern adult invasive cardiovascular laboratory.

Course Objectives

  1. Describe the equipment needed, indications, contraindications, and complications of invasive procedures.
  2. Describe pre- and post-procedural care for cardiovascular procedures.
  3. Recognize cardiac monitoring activities that occur during a procedure.
  4. Identify how to respond to emergencies that occur during cardiovascular procedures.
  5. List the steps for percutaneous access, LHC, RHC, and hemostasis.
  6. Discuss the treatment of cardiovascular diseases including interventions.
  7. Describe the different types of structural heart repair and replacement.
