ENGL 226 World Literature I
In this course, students read, analyze, and research diverse and significant literary texts from antiquity to the Renaissance in the context of their cultural values and historical periods and apply basic literary terms, concepts, and critical strategies while learning to appreciate the conventions of a variety of genres.

Course Objectives
- Identify and apply appropriate literary terminology and literary criticism (perspectives) in order to evaluate and analyze ideas within texts and across genres.
- Generate ideas, explore possibilities, and consider economic, historical, political, and cultural issues in literature.
- Use evidence from literary texts and secondary texts to compose original and insightful literary analysis.
- Analyze literary works for an academic audience.
- Organize ideas and source material in order to make clear, cohesive arguments about literature.
- Communicate effectively an understanding of the literature and present it to others.
