MUSC 162 Introduction to Music Therapy and Practice - Part II

Introduction to Music Therapy and Practice, Parts I and II, is a two-semester sequence designed to introduce the student to the profession of Music Therapy. MUSC 162 is designed to explore the populations served by music therapists in greater depth and to introduce students to approaches upon which music therapy practices are based. Students will add papers, readings, observations, and techniques pertinent to these populations in their Music Therapy Professional Portfolio.

Course Objectives

1. 1. Define, describe and discuss the populations served by music therapists with respect to characteristics,
   facilities, etiology, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, treatment team, treatment process, assessment,
   evaluation and termination.
2. 2. Define, describe and discuss approaches used by music therapists.
3. 3. Apply the concepts presented as approaches to music therapy to the populations served by music
   therapists.
4. 4. Compare and contrast the uses of music therapy approaches with different populations.
