RADT 258 Clinical Radiography V
In this course, students demonstrate mastery of previously acquired knowledge and skills, with emphasis on advanced critical thinking, clinical independence, and integration of comprehensive didactic concepts to produce consistent diagnostic-quality images in a competency-based clinical environment. Students are supervised by qualified registered technologists under direct or indirect supervision, as appropriate to their level of competency. Principles of radiation protection, patient care, equipment operation, quality assurance, and image production, processing, and archiving are consistently applied and refined in clinical practice. Clinical Radiography V is the fifth and final clinical education course in the program sequence, emphasizing readiness for entry-level professional practice.
Hours Weekly
16 clinical hours weekly for 15 weeks
A graduate should be able to
- Perform radiographic procedures independently at an entry-level standard, demonstrating advanced patient care, communication, verification, and documentation.
- Perform routine and selected advanced procedures with minimal supervision, adapting positioning to patient condition and clinical requirements.
- Select, adjust, and justify technical factors to consistently produce diagnostic-quality images.
- Apply and evaluate ALARA principles to independently optimize radiation dose while maintaining image quality.
- Evaluate images and independently implement appropriate corrective actions or repeat decisions.
- Demonstrate professional, ethical, and accountable behavior consistent with entry-level practice.
- Apply critical thinking and clinical judgment to support appropriate procedures, technical factors, and patient care decisions.
- Independently manage departmental workflow to ensure efficient and patient-centered imaging practices.
