RADT 238 Clinical Radiography III
In this course, students build upon previously acquired knowledge and skills, with emphasis on the application of comprehensive didactic concepts and the demonstration of clinical competency to produce diagnostic-quality images in a competency-based clinical environment. Students are supervised by qualified registered technologists in accordance with their level of competency. Principles of radiation protection, patient care, equipment operation, quality assurance, and image production and evaluation are reinforced. Students participate in clinical rotations that include interventional radiology, trauma imaging, and selected advanced imaging modalities. Clinical Radiography III is the third clinical education course in the program sequence. Medical terminology is integrated throughout the course.
Hours Weekly
34 clinical hours per week for 7 weeks
A graduate should be able to
- Perform routine and selected advanced radiographic procedures with appropriate supervision.
- Modify patient positioning and technical factors based on patient condition, clinical indications, and exam requirements.
- Evaluate radiographic images for positioning accuracy, anatomical demonstration, and exposure quality, and initiate appropriate corrective actions or repeat criteria.
- Apply and critically evaluate radiation protection principles, including ALARA, to optimize dose while maintaining image quality for patients, self, and others.
- Demonstrate advanced patient care practices, including accurate patient identification, effective communication, independent time-out verification, and thorough documentation.
- Demonstrate professional, ethical, and accountable behavior, ensuring patient privacy, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.
