MACH 200 CNC II Setup and Operation
This course teaches the fundamental skills required to safely and efficiently set up and operate a variety of computer-controlled (CNC) machine tools. Students will learn how CNC equipment operates in industry by designing and producing real-life projects that apply the skills and knowledge gained throughout the program.
Hours Weekly
2 hours lecture, 2 hours lab
Course Objectives
- Operate CNC machine controls, including the Haas Next Generation Control (NGC) interface, to home the machine, navigate operational modes, and prepare programs for execution while adhering to established safety standards.
- Set and verify work offsets, tool length offsets, and cutter compensation to machine parts that meet specifications indicated on engineering drawings.
- Select and establish appropriate program zero locations using manual touch-off procedures and/or WIPS probing systems based on machining requirements.
- Select and configure suitable work holding methods to ensure secure material setup, repeatability of operations, and proper tool access during machining.
- Measure and evaluate machined parts using precision inspection tools to verify dimensional accuracy and surface finish in accordance with print specifications.
- Prepare and validate CNC setups consistent with NIMS Level I CNC Operator standards by verifying program function, confirming safe operation, and ensuring finished parts meet specified tolerances.
