Transfer Information and Advising

Transfer Advising

Careful planning and research are essential for a successful transfer experience. Seek guidance from academic advisors at both Howard Community College and the college or university you plan to pursue transfer. They can provide valuable insights, help you plan your course schedule, and ensure a smooth transition. Investigate the universities you’re interested in transferring to. Look into admission requirements, transfer policies, and any specific prerequisites for your major. Understanding these details will help you make informed decisions.

Each college and university have its own credit transfer policies. Some courses may transfer seamlessly, as is the case for many of our partners in the Maryland system, while others may not. Knowing which credits will transfer ensures that you don’t waste time or money on unnecessary coursework.

Students are also strongly encouraged to meet, whenever possible, with transfer representatives from the institutions to which they plan to transfer. In addition to transfer advising, students are encouraged to use the college resources available and participate in the transfer activities held on campus, including Transfer Fairs, college and university visits, and a variety of transfer and scholarship seminars. The advising office has many partnerships with college and university transfer representatives.
