RADT 106 Introduction to Radiography and Patient Care
This course consists of three major sections: Introduction to Patient Care, Introduction to Image Production, and Introduction to Radiographic Procedures/Positioning. Introduction to Patient Care is an overview of the role of effective communication, infection control, patient transfer, patient safety, career opportunities, scope of practice, medical and legal ethics, and cultural awareness in diagnostic imaging. In Introduction to Image Production, students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts radiographic image production, setting manual and AEC techniques, and basic radiation protection. In Introduction to Radiographic Procedures/Positioning, students will be introduced to the basic radiographic procedures and patient positioning of the chest and upper extremities.

3 hours theory, 4 hours lab weekly
Course Objectives
- Prepare accurate and complete patient clinical history.
- Demonstrate safe techniques for patient transport and transfer.
- Demonstrate proper knowledge of infection control techniques and examine specific patient safety measures.
- Evaluate the general employment outlook and career advancement opportunities.
- Analyze ethical, legal, and professional behavior in health care delivery.
- Identify in the correct order the steps of image production workflow and select exposure technical factors.
- Identify the cardinal principles of radiation protection and discuss ALARA concepts.
- Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and positioning skills.
