AVMP 155 Principles of Film and Media Production

Previously FILM 139. This course is an interdisciplinary study of film and video production. Emphasis is on the creative and technical aesthetics of basic content production which includes: composition, terminology, lighting, sound, and linear vs. non-linear structure. This course will also examine the technical processes, rules, and ethical considerations that are faced when making media. Students will be challenged to create media that elicits emotions and changes minds.

Course Objectives

  1. Identify and apply critical theories and concepts related to issues of aesthetics, creativity, and invention in media.
  2. Generate ideas, explore possibilities, and consider alternatives with innovation, risk-taking, and creativity in film and media production.
  3. Analyze and evaluate the human experience through informed consideration of electronic media.
  4. Create media for different types of media purposes and contexts.
  5. Identify issues and ideas related to authorship and ethics for differing types of electronic media and media institutions.
  6. Recognize the responsibilities of the creator in the development of media.
  7. Apply ethical decision making, while considering alternative ethical perspectives, in the creation of media.
  8. Explore the creative relationships and professional responsibilities of various media production personnel.
  9. Identify and select the appropriate technology tools (software and equipment) to fulfill needs for creating electronic media.
  10. Demonstrate effective understanding and use of audio/video technology software and equipment.
  11. Demonstrate clear communication and collaboration using audio/video technology skills while using audio/video software and equipment.
