AVMP 110 Introduction to Video

Previously TVRD 110. This course will explore the ever increasing ways that video enhances personal communication in the modern world, from students posting on social media to CEOs recording short communication pieces for company personnel. The emphasis will be on technical skills, artistic theories, and message formulation strategies necessary to create effective, memorable videos with familiar equipment including cell phones, palmcorders, and digital cameras. Techniques explored include acquisition, editing, exporting, sharing, posting, and other distribution methods.

  1. Identify and apply critical theories and concepts to communication with video.
  2. Generate ideas, explore possibilities, and consider alternatives with innovation, risk-taking, and creativity in the creation of video communication strategies and artifacts.
  3. Assess, reflect on, and critically analyze the role of video-based communication.
  4. Apply video creation and concepts within contemporary communication contexts.
  5. Select the appropriate video technology tool to accomplish video content projects.
  6. Demonstrate the effective use of video technology tools.
  7. Communicate and collaborate while creating video content projects.
  8. Demonstrate basic editing in a digital environment.
