ARTS 222 Photography: Film I

Previously ARTT 141. In this basic black-and-white film photography course, students will learn film camera operation, exposure challenges, composition, lighting techniques, film processing, and darkroom printing. With an emphasis on personal vision, this course allows students to pursue artistic goals and explore the role of film photography in fine art and commercial applications. A film SLR camera with manual capabilities and a tripod are required.

  2. Process film and photographic prints that retain highlight and shadow detail.
  3. Apply basic lighting techniques and exposure controls to enhance imagery.

  6. Incorporate personal artistic vision, innovation, risk-taking, and creativity into the image-making and printing process.
  7. Analyze photographers’ rights and the ethical issues inherent in the image-making process.
