RADT 283 MRI Clinical Practicum I

In this course, students will develop the skills necessary to perform routine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures. MRI Clinical Practicum I is designed to allow students to sequentially develop, apply, analyze, and evaluate concepts and theories in performing MRI procedures. Students observe and assist venipuncture and MRI procedures under direct supervision of a registered technologist. When a satisfactory degree of proficiency is apparent, the student can perform the activity under indirect supervision to gain experience in MR imaging. All candidates for the certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging are required to perform and document a minimum number of procedures with competency to establish eligibility for the ARRT certification examination. This course will enable students to rotate to clinical sites and document a portion of the required procedures. Course Objectives

  1. 1. Demonstrate patient care skills pertinent to MRI procedures such as contraindications and contrast reaction.
  2. 2. Use clear and effective oral and written communication to document patient history.
  3. 3. Perform routine MR procedures or series and select appropriate pulse sequence to obtain diagnostic MR images.
  4. 4. Demonstrate sound MRI equipment operation and manipulation skills.
  5. 5. Perform procedure specific post processing and reconstruction techniques.
  6. 6. Produce diagnostic quality MR images and critique their images.
  7. 7. Demonstrate professional ethics.
