NURS 135 Medical-Surgical Nursing I

Building on theoretical knowledge and clinical competencies from NURS-122 or NURS-123, the student will develop competencies required to administer safe, technical nursing care to patients experiencing complex health problems. Utilizing the curriculum framework, the student will examine patient responses to stress and will select general nursing actions to meet patient needs.

NURS 122, BIOL 204, and PSYC 200. Pre- or corequisites: ENGL 121 and PSYC 101

2.5 hours theory, 4.5 hours lab weekly

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Utilize knowledge of pathophysiology in the application of nursing care for patients experiencing
    complex responses to stress.
  2. 2. Collaborate with the health care team and patients to promote wellness and disease prevention.
  3. 3. Participate in activities that reflect professional nursing practice in the health care setting.
  4. 4. Describe a holistic approach to the provision of nursing care to patients experiencing complex
    responses to stress.
  5. 5. Demonstrate caring, integrity, safe practice and accountability in practicing the art and science of
    nursing.
  6. 6. Utilize critical thinking in the application of the nursing process.
  7. 7. Deliver nursing care in an effective and efficient manner, maintaining legal and ethical
    standards.
  8. 8. Identify resources to support members of a multicultural society responding to stress.
