MUSA 154 Class Guitar I

Previously MUSC 195. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have a fundamental understanding of the basics of music reading and guitar playing. The main focus is the discipline of classical guitar technique and style with emphasis on ensemble music reading and individual development. Some instruction will be offered in other styles of guitar music. This class will serve as a foundation for more in-depth study on the private level.

Course Objectives

  1. Play any given note in all its locations on the fingerboard.
  2. Play any scale or chord.
  3. Recite the order of key signatures in flat and sharp keys.
  4. Demonstrate correct rhythm reading of music which includes whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, and eighth notes.
  5. Perform a Tremolo slowly.
  6. Perform roll slowly.
  7. Read Tablature.
  8. Perform Spanish Ballad.
  9. Perform the 1st 16 measures of Leyenda.
  10. Demonstrate fluent chord switching technique.
