HIST 103 History of the African American Experience to Reconstruction
This course will explore the African American experience from the beginning of the Atlantic slave trade to the end of Reconstruction in 1877. It will emphasize topics such as the slave trade, expansion of slavery, growth of free black communities, African diaspora, the Civil War, and Reconstruction, and particular attention will be given to themes of resistance and cultural formation within the African American community.

- Analyze and evaluate the ways in which early African-American history informs the political, cultural, and/or social issues of the United States.
