DMSU 205 Echocardiography I Lab
In this course, students will focus on learning proper scan techniques, cardiac measurement, and spectral Doppler applications in the lab. This course includes the cardiovascular assessment techniques (TTE & TEE), physics, anatomy and physiology review, and an introduction to the theoretical and practical principles of basic M-mode exam and two-dimensional echocardiography examination of the adult heart. This laboratory course applies technical ultrasonic skills to the topics and concepts covered in Echocardiography I.
Hours Weekly
3 hours lab
Course Objectives
- Employ patient preparation for the echocardiography examination.
- Demonstrate protocol imaging for each of the basic views of the heart.
- Identify the indications for echocardiography and demonstrate knowledge of clinical data and test results.
- Demonstrate proper technique for conducting two-dimensional imaging, spectral Doppler, and M-mode tracings of the heart with measurement.
- Identify challenges in imaging normal heart anatomy compared to disease states.
- Identify and describe complications related to imaging various heart diseases.
