DANC 250 Dance Composition
This course serves as an introduction to the creative process through improvisation, self exploration, group interaction, and relating musical tone and character to the development of thematic and abstract movement invention. Students explore compositional devices and develop solos and small group choreography. Students will perform these works in class and participate in the process of developing critical feedback in response.

Course Objectives
- Recognize the ethical concerns relating to dance by identifying the difference between appropriation of material and artistic influence.
- Demonstrate original movement through use of choreographic devices, recognizing what constitutes original movement, choreographic vision, and permissible appropriation.
- Develop authentic and original choreography considering various interpretations of intellectual property.
- Identify and develop improvisation as a source of movement invention.
- Understand the various modern, post-modern, and contemporary choreographic approaches.
- Communicate and articulate choreographic vision.
- Demonstrate creative use of sound/music with choreography.
