RADT 231 Radiologic Procedures IV

This course is the study of advanced radiographic procedures with the addition of computed tomography, digital radiography, ultrasonography, magnetic resonance imaging, interventional radiography and computer applications in radiology. It includes study of pathologic disorders and their respective impact on radiography.

Course Objectives

1. Apply basic concepts of pharmacology as it relates to the practice of radiology.
2. Describe the basic concepts of pharmacology as it relates to the practice of radiology.
3. Discuss the theory and practice of basic techniques of venipuncture and the administration of of diagnostic contrast agents and/or intravenous medications.
4. Discuss the adaptations of radiographic/fluoroscopic procedures based on special considerations.
5. Describe the monitoring, pre- and post-procedure care drug administration, and special precautions for a patient undergoing computed tomography, digital radiography, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasonography.
6. Discuss the type, usage, and route of administration of contrast media commonly used to perform contrast and special studies.
7. Identify specific types of tubes, lines, catheters, and collection devices.
8. Explain the purpose, precautions, and care of tubes, lines, catheters, and collection devices.
9. Describe the social problems faced in performing procedures on a patient with tracheotomy and specific tubes, drains, and catheters.
10. Describe the procedure for producing diagnostic images in the surgical suite.
