HMDV 261 STEM Seminar IV

In STEM Seminar IV, students expand their research, technical writing and presentation skills building on a topic from a 200-level course or a research seminar experience.  Additional topics include the role of ethics and statistics in mathematics and the sciences.  Opportunities are available to participate in a poster session, mentorship program and field trips.  Enrollment is recommended for those with STEM majors.

Course Objectives

  1. Choose an advanced topic from one of the student’s 200-level courses and choose, among various digital media, a medium that best suits your purpose and topic.
  2. Find and cite online journals, academic websites, and databases related to the sciences as needed for a presentation on an advanced topic.
  3. Explain to a person schooled in the sciences information on an advanced topic; briefly discuss the history of this concept, what questions this development might pose to society, and how these might be answered.
  4. Identify ethical issues in mathematics and science context and content areas and apply ethical perspectives in dealing with these.
