ENTR 127 Legal Issues for a Startup
This course is one of a series of courses that provides students with the coaching and guidance to plan for and launch a new business venture. This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, tools, and resources to identify and understand the legal issues that a new venture must address. Topics include choosing the legal form of organization, ownership, intellectual property rights, licenses and permits, contracts and leases, and other legal and regulatory information.

Course Objectives
- 1. Evaluate different legal forms of organization and choose the best for one's business venture.
- 2. Describe the protection provided by each of these forms of intellectual property: copyright, patents, and trademarks, and define how one's business can be protected under each form.
- 3. Research and identify the local, state, and federal legal requirements to register and launch one's new business venture.
- 4. Demonstrate an understanding of the important terms, conditions, obligations, and protections of contracts and leases that one's business may be a party to.
