ARTT-109 Drawing I: Observation and Invention

This course is an introduction to the theories, practices, and techniques of drawing as a descriptive tool and as a mode of personal expression. The emphasis is on perception and the traditional conventions of representational drawing, including perspective, proportion, and composition. Students will work in line to emphasize accurate shapes and values to develop form and the effect of light. Previous drawing is helpful but not necessary. Experienced students will find that this course will improve their ability to handle the fundamental concepts of representational drawing. Subjects may include still life, interiors, portraits, and figures.
