ARTT-920 Lives of the Artists on Film

Giorgio Vasari's Medieval sourcebook Lives of the Artists traced the flowering of the Renaissance through colorful and detailed written portraits of the most representative figures of Italian art across three centuries. Today, the ties between great artists and motion pictures tend to transcend the artist and his masterpieces from their two-dimensional canvas confines into the conscious popularity of the general public. This course is an introduction into the historic and cinematic world of several artists from Michelangelo to Frida Kahlo. The course consists of lectures, viewing films, discussions, and journaling.
