RADT 118 Clinical Radiography I
This course introduces students to supervised clinical education in radiography within a patient-centered healthcare setting. Students begin developing fundamental clinical skills, including patient care and assessment, accurate patient positioning, selection and application of exposure techniques, operation of radiographic equipment, application of radiation protection principles, and evaluation of radiographic images. Under the direct supervision of a registered radiologic technologist, students perform basic radiographic procedures to produce diagnostic-quality images while adhering to clinical protocols. Clinical experiences include imaging of the chest, abdomen, upper extremities and shoulder girdle, lower extremities and pelvic girdle, and the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Students are required to complete supervised clinical competencies to demonstrate progressive skill development. This course serves as the first clinical education component of the radiography program and prepares students for increasing clinical responsibility.
Hours Weekly
16 hours of clinical rotation per week for 7 weeks.
A graduate should be able to
- Apply established clinical radiography protocols while recognizing departmental workflow to support efficient and accurate imaging.
- Demonstrate foundational patient care skills, including identification, communication, and safety checks.
- Apply basic positioning and exposure techniques for routine exams.
- Identify acceptable vs. unacceptable images with instructor assistance.
- Apply established clinical radiography protocols while analyzing workflow processes to ensure efficient, accurate, and patient-centered imaging practices.
- Maintain professional behavior, including safety awareness, ethical conduct, and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
