MECH 105 Industrial Safety

This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to ensure workplace safety, identify and mitigate hazards, and foster a safety-conscious culture. Through a broad range of safety and regulatory compliance sessions, students will gain a strong foundation in industry standards and best practices. As part of the course, students will also have the opportunity to earn the OSHA 10 certification.

A graduate should be able to

  1. Explain the role of OSHA in the workplace, as well as workers’ rights and employer responsibilities.
  2. Apply standard workplace safety protocols in compliance with OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
  3. Identify common workplace safety hazards and implement appropriate corrective action to prevent them.
  4. Select, use, and maintain the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) according to guidelines and regulations.
  5. Develop and implement emergency action procedures, including evacuation, communication, and incident response.
  6. Describe strategies that support the development of a safety-oriented workplace culture.
  7. Apply appropriate strategies of inquiry and exploration to find, evaluate, and use information ethically in the study of industrial safety.
