AUTO 125 Engine Diagnosis and Repair
This course introduces students to the various processes used to diagnose and repair automotive engines. Students will learn to test and evaluate key engine operating systems, including cooling, fuel, air, and lubrication. Hands-on activities will cover common diagnostic scenarios such as detecting head gasket leaks, checking valve timing and performing engine compression tests. This course maps to the ASE A1 - Engine Repair certification.
Hours Weekly
2 hours lecture, 4 hours lab
Course Objectives
- Diagnose internal combustion engine problems using mechanical and electronic testing procedures.
- Disassemble and reassemble automotive engines following manufacturer specifications and industry safety practices.
- Inspect and evaluate cylinder heads, valve train components, and engine block assemblies to determine wear, damage, and serviceability.
- Evaluate engine condition and performance using compression, leak-down, vacuum, and pressure testing methods.
- Repair engine support systems, including lubrication and cooling systems, to restore proper engine operation.
- Apply professional safety, environmental, and workplace practices consistent with ASE and OSHA standards during engine repair activities.
