AUTO 110 Engine Performance Systems

This course examines all major aspects of vehicle engine performance, including general engine diagnosis, ignition system diagnosis and repair, fuel system service, air-induction and exhaust system diagnosis, and emission-control system troubleshooting. Students will also study computerized engine-control systems, including On-Board Diagnostics II (OBD II), and learn industry-standard diagnostic and repair procedures. This course aligns with the ASE A8 - Engine Performance certification.

Course Objectives

  1. Explain the operation of engine performance systems, including ignition, fuel delivery, air induction, exhaust, emission controls, and computerized engine management.
  2. Interpret diagnostic information from scan tools, sensors, actuators, and control modules to evaluate engine performance conditions.
  3. Diagnose engine performance and drivability concerns using appropriate mechanical and electronic testing procedures.
  4. Test and repair ignition and fuel delivery system components according to manufacturer specifications.
  5. Diagnose and repair emission control systems to ensure proper engine operation and environmental compliance.
  6. Verify engine mechanical condition and computerized control system operation following established diagnostic procedures.
