HEED 116 Fundamentals of Spiritual Awareness

This practical course will provide students tools to understand spirituality and its significance. Major topics include the nature of spirituality and religion, the nature of mysticism, major world figures who contributed to spirituality and religion, human consciousness, energy phenomena, spiritual practices and techniques, reincarnation and karma, and death and dying. At completion of the course, students should know how to use specific techniques to enhance spiritual awareness, and these techniques may help students experience life with less stress, greater confidence, peace, and happiness.

Course Objectives

  1. Define and discuss spirituality and religion.
  2. Explain the nature of mysticism and its significance.
  3. Identify and discuss several persons who contributed significantly to the world of spirituality and religion.
  4. Explore the mind, thought, consciousness, and intuition from various spiritual and psychological perspectives.
  5. Discuss the meaning and significance of one's spiritual "journey."
  6. Investigate energy phenomena - including the aura, energy centers, and the chakras.
  7. Explain and explore affirmations, prayer, meditation, and visualization.
  8. Discuss reincarnation and karma.
  9. Investigate death, near-death experiences, and dying.
