BMET 220 Biomedical Equipment Field Internship

Students will spend a minimum of 100 hours working as a biomedical technician intern in a chosen area of the biomedical equipment technology industry at an off-campus facility. The faculty instructor and industry mentor will provide and coordinate measurable learning objectives, applicable experiences, and evaluation. Students will provide periodic written self-assessments of internship experiences.

Prerequisite

BMET 114 and HEED 128. Students must receive prior approval to register for this internship. Call the Health, Science, & Technology Division Office at 443-518-1600.

Course Objectives

  1. Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair biomedical equipment under the supervision of a full-time technician.
  2. Interpret equipment-specific documentation, including user guides, service manuals, maintenance procedures, etc.
  3. Describe the role of a biomedical equipment technician and the interactions with other medical professionals within the broader context of the healthcare industry.
  4. Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and an adherence to employer and industry standards, policies, and procedures associated with the internship.
  5. Assess one's own performance and respond appropriately to constructive feedback from the internship supervisor.
