AVMP 283 Audio/Video Documentary

After examining trends and styles of historic and contemporary documentary, AVMP Documentary students script, shoot, edit and composite a short documentary film with professional audio and video elements including public domain and self-produced sources,  scripts, narration, editing, and post. This course provides students an opportunity to hone and build production skills in topic and show research, narration and voice-over, media management, delivery formats and codecs, graphic elements, super-impositions, and post-production.

Course Objectives

  1. Analyze, critique, and deconstruct documentaries.
  2. Identify trends and styles of documentary.
  3. Discuss and develop stories for a variety of audiences, both targeted and broad.
  4. Write for, interview for, record, voice, edit, and publish documentaries, both alone and as part of a team.
  5. Utilize narrative arc, character development, effective ambient sound, and evocative writing to produce a professional documentary.
  6. Utilize advanced digital multi-track editing software to produce complete, polished documentary projects for inclusion in a portfolio.
