PTAP 265 Professional Issues in Physical Therapy

This seminar covers topics relevant to professional development and communication. Topics include cultural competence, learning and communication styles, and wellness, ethical, and legal aspects of care. Current trends in health care will be discussed. The seminar also includes topics related to employment including resume writing, interviewing, and continuing education.

  1. Employ clinical communication skills needed in the health care setting.
  2. Compare cultural differences and personality traits that impact the clinician's interaction with patients and other members of the health care team.
  3. Contrast individual learning styles and relate to patient education.
  4. Define an audience and develop a community education presentation.
  5. Demonstrate skills needed to pursue and secure employment.
  6. Discuss the psychosocial factors that impact an individual's response to therapy.
  7. Describe the PTA licensure process.
  8. Describe how the legal system relates to physical therapy practice.
