PSYC 200 Lifespan Development

Through this course, students will develop an understanding of the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development of individuals from infancy to very old age. Within the bio-psychosocial framework, students will be able to research and apply developmental concepts to relevant problems in daily life.

Course Objectives

  1. Critically apply the scientific method by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the various methods and theories of developmental research.
  2. Explain, analyze, and evaluate psychological concepts as they apply to lifespan development.
  3. Analyze and evaluate the biological, psychological, and social perspectives and the interaction between these three perspectives using supportive data and evidence.
  4. Apply the perspectives of bio-psychosocial theory to one's own experience, both in and out of the classroom.
  5. Compare and contrast bio-psychosocial and cultural influences across the lifespan.
  6. Write clearly and effectively using appropriate, relevant, and properly attributed content that demonstrates the writer's understanding of lifespan developmental thinking.
