CRIM 105 Introduction to Corrections

This course introduces students to the field of corrections, as it relates to the justice system. The course will focus on the history of corrections and the forms of criminal sanctions at the federal, state, and local levels.

Course Objectives

  1. Examine the history of corrections in America.
  2. Analyze the early history of correctional thought and practices.
  3. Describe the sentencing of prisoners and Law of Correction.
  4. Analyze the management of prisons and major classification systems.
  5. Analyze prison life and identify correctional clients and special problems.
  6. Analyze the relationship between probation, intermediate sanctions, and community corrections.
  7. Identify and analyze contemporary challenges and issues in corrections.
