CARD 261 Clinical Internship
Practicum in a clinical setting. Students will refine clinical skills by active participation in a cardiovascular department. Students will also gain more extensive hands-on experience in the areas of scrubbing, circulating, recording, pre- and post-procedure care and manipulating imaging equipment. Students may also gain experience in peripheral and/or electrophysiology procedures.

Course Objectives
- Demonstrate clinical preparedness by successfully completing all required objectives as stated in the clinical modules.
- Recognize the causes and prevention of complications in the invasive cardiovascular laboratory.
- Effectively set up and monitor an aortic balloon pump.
- Discuss current diagnostic and therapeutic procedures employed in the invasive laboratory and describe their indications and contraindications.
- Demonstrate scrub competency in areas of interventional cardiology, diagnostic and interventional peripheral procedures, electrophysiology procedures, and pediatric procedures as permitted.
- Identify and describe congenital cardiac anomalies.
