CARD 261 Clinical Internship

Practicum in a clinical setting. Students will refine clinical skills by active participation in a cardiovascular department. Students will also gain more extensive hands-on experience in the areas of scrubbing, circulating, recording, pre- and post-procedure care and manipulating imaging equipment. Students may also gain experience in peripheral and/or electrophysiology procedures.

Course Objectives

  1. Demonstrate clinical preparedness by successfully completing all required objectives as stated in the clinical modules.
  2. Recognize the causes and prevention of complications in the invasive cardiovascular laboratory.
  3. Effectively set up and monitor an aortic balloon pump.
  4. Discuss current diagnostic and therapeutic procedures employed in the invasive laboratory and describe their indications and contraindications.
  5. Demonstrate scrub competency in areas of interventional cardiology, diagnostic and interventional peripheral procedures, electrophysiology procedures, and pediatric procedures as permitted.
  6. Identify and describe congenital cardiac anomalies.
