BMGT 100 Introduction to Business and Organization

In this course, students will explore the primary disciplines in business on an introductory level, including economics, human resource management, finance options, ethics and corporate social responsibility, management theory, and marketing strategies. Students will examine challenges present in the current business environment both domestically and internationally. The course is kept current by students' exposure to guest speakers and case analyses. Some written and oral reports will be required from these activities. This course is ideal both for students who wish to pursue a career in business and those who wish to gain a better understanding of the business world in which they live.

Course Objectives

  1. Explain the basic functions, structures, and operations of business management.
  2. Identify the factors within the financial, global, and economic environments that contribute to core business processes.
  3. Summarize the various methods of organizing a business and explain the challenges to coordination within an organization, including HR management, ethical concerns, and legal compliance.
  4. Analyze marketing activities and how a business uses marketing to create value and increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  5. Examine the fundamentals of measuring financial performance within an organization.
  6. Develop and deliver a business presentation and collaborate with cross-functional teams, using various office technology applications.
