MUSP 179 Beginning Cello Ensemble II

Previously MUSC 182C. The chamber instrumental ensembles offer a performance-oriented exposure to both traditional and contemporary styles in a variety of instrumental combinations. Special attention will be given to those musicianship skills which are crucial to effective ensemble performance.

Course Objectives

  1. Perform ensemble repertoire ranging from traditional to contemporary styles.
  2. Demonstrate, in performance, knowledge of the musical adjustments required by different composers and styles.
  3. Demonstrate technical proficiency on one’s instrument or voice.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of ensemble performance including: balance, blend, dynamics, and precision.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of interpretation including: phrasing, style, and nuance.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of individual responsibility to the whole through regular class attendance, learning music in a timely manner, and proper behavior during rehearsals.
