HEED 104 Personal Nutrition Assessment

Students are introduced to a computerized nutritional assessment program. Students evaluate their current nutritional status and develop strategies for improvement. Various group discussions, lectures, and labs provide students with the means to critically evaluate their dietary practices.

Course Objectives

  1. Identify and evaluate research and apply this information to current USDA recommendations
    for nutrition.
  2. Analyze current dietary intake using a computer-based system, then create strategies for
    improving current dietary intake based on results of current intake analysis.
  3. Describe the role nutrition plays in health/wellness.
  4. Identify the nutritional components of diet and compare and contrast their contributions to
    personal nutrition.
  5. Compare and contrast fads and fallacies of nutrition and establish one’s own position on the
    issue.
  6. Identify various food preparation methods, including advantages and disadvantages as they
    relate to health.
