CNST 215 Building Construction Operations and Management

This course emphasizes the corporate structure and basic principles required to operate and manage a general contracting company. Project management, from the executive perspective, will be emphasized. Topics include an overview of construction law and a review of the bonding and insurance requirements of a construction project.

Course Objectives

  1. Describe the structure and organization of a general contracting firm.
  2. Compare the different construction project delivery methods and associated contracts.
  3. Identify the planning, scheduling, and staffing functions required for a successful project.
  4. Justify the importance of material and cost control.
  5. Describe proper management of subcontracts and subcontractor relationships.
  6. Identify the safety standards and quality control requirements for contractors.
  7. Discuss basic construction law issues (claims, liability, dispute resolution, etc.).
  8. Discuss the types of construction insurance and bonds that must be provided during the construction process.
