ARTS 263 Introduction to Asian, Indigenous American, and African Art

This course introduces students to the arts and architecture of Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Oceania. Course material covers a broad geographic and chronological span, from ancient times to the present. The relationship of art to geography, social status, gender, belief systems, and lifecycle stages will form the framework of this course. In addition, the course will critically address commonly held Western assumptions and stereotypes about the non-Western world and its arts.

  9. Describe how globalization has impacted the traditional art forms of Non-Western cultures.
