Accreditation and Membership

Howard Community College is fully accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, 267-284-5000, to offer programs of learning and to award the associate of arts degree, the associate of arts in teaching degree, the associate of applied science degree, the associate of science in engineering degree, and the certificate.

The college’s associate degree nursing and practical nurse certificate programs are fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Upon approval of the Maryland Board of Nursing, associate degree graduates may sit for the national licensure examination for registered nurses, and those completing the practical nurse certificate option may apply to sit for the national licensure examination for practical nurses.

The Cardiovascular Technology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of Joint Review Committee on Education in Cardiovascular Technology. Graduates sit for the national certification examination to become a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist.

The Dental Hygiene program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation [and has been granted the accreditation status of “approval without reporting requirements”]. The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS).

The Radiologic Technology program is accredited by The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Successful completion of the program leads to eligibility to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Exam.

Howard Community College is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.

The college also holds membership in a number of professional organizations including the American Association of Community Colleges, the National Association of College and University Business Officers, the Maryland Association of Community Colleges, the National Association of Community College Trustees, the National Accrediting Commission, National League for Nursing, and Alliance of Cardiovascular Professionals.

Howard Community College’s credit areas of study are approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for veterans benefits and the U.S. Department of Defense for Tuition Assistance. Additionally, HCC has a limited amount of continuing education programs that are also approved for veterans benefits.
