ENGL 105 Special Topics in Literature
In this course, students study literature that shares a common theme or that is limited to a particular historical period or genre. In addition, students are introduced to critical reading strategies, literary criticism, and a diverse and expanding literary canon.

Course Objectives
- Identify and discuss ways that texts relate to enduring and/or contemporary issues.
- Compose an original response to a text.
- Analyze how writers in different times, places, and cultures have explored a common theme.
- Identify and discuss ways in which related art (film, painting, music, etc.) help illuminate the text and the historical context or theme.
- Analyze literary works for an academic audience.
- Use a variety of media to convey characteristics of literature employing various cultural, historical, and literary contexts.
- Communicate effectively an understanding of the literature and exchange ideas with others.
