DANC 215 Musical Theatre Dance
This course will focus on training performers in the various dance styles used in Broadway and off-Broadway musicals. Students will demonstrate these dance skills by performing pieces of choreography created by well-known musical choreographers such as Susan Stroman, Gower Champion, Michael Bennett, George Faison, Agnes de Mille, Garth Fagan, Gillian Lynne, Jerry Mitchell, and Bob Fosse. Students will then apply this knowledge towards a final performance of several contrasting pieces.

Course Objectives
- Achieve competence with history and works of famous musical choreographers
- Compare and contrast different dance styles of these musical choreographers
- Demonstrate choreography of each major choreographer
- Research musical characters for performance
- Create a physical life for characters in each dance
- Demonstrate ability to work well with other students in group choreography
- Define and apply musical theatre and jazz technique terminology
- Analyze professional musical dancers’ performances
