CARD 221 Diagnostic and Interventional Procedures

This course will prepare students for the clinical environment. Clinical experience is provided in the invasive setting of the cardiology department. Students will initially observe invasive procedures and eventually participate as they demonstrate competency in the skills laboratory portion of the course. The laboratory portion of the course will prepare students for the scrub position.

Course Objectives

  1. Discuss the role of cardiology in the promotion, maintenance and restoration of wellness for clients.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to maintain medical and surgical asepsis.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to select, prepare and utilize specialized equipment to restore cardiovascular
    wellness of clients.
  4. Maintain an environment conducive to patient and personal safety.
  5. Implement care in an effective and efficient manner utilizing principles of professional practice, legal
    and ethical standards.
  6. Demonstrate technical proficiency in the performance of cardiovascular procedures.
  7. Demonstrate ability to communicate with client and collaborate with other health team members
