CADD 109 Introduction to Building Information Modeling (BIM)
In this course, students will learn the concepts, basic skills, and techniques for developing Architectural Floor Plans and creating Building Information Modeling (BIM) models using Revit Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP), and Revit Structural software. The instruction will address issues and best practices for the architectural, mechanical, and structural design of buildings by developing a single 3D model and database and its impact on the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) Industry.
Hours Weekly
2 hours lecture, 2 hours lab weekly
Course Objectives
- Create drawings for Building Information Modeling (BIM).
- Develop and coordinate Plans and Elevations using Revit Architecture.
- Evaluate and review Floor Plans and Elevations using Revit Structural.
- Identify and apply criteria for the design of Plans and Elevations using Revit MEP.
- Identify the rules for establishing database links and interfaces between the various graphic and database
programs. - Analyze the economics of buildings with sustainable features using the first cost and life-cycle cost
approaches.
- Apply industry best practices and acquire knowledge various options to work collaboratively on CAD
projects. - Apply advanced CAD principles such as, User Coordinate Systems, GIS (Geospatial Information
Systems) with other workflow methods.
- Demonstrate an ability to incorporate BIM as a construction management tool.
- Apply the BIM tool to Project Management applications.
