AVMP 282 Sound Design and Creation

This course includes creating and editing sound effects, ADR, Foley, music, and ambience, for multiple visual mediums. Course work focuses on computer-assisted production using Digital Audio Workstations, MIDI devices, and sound design techniques using industry-standard equipment. Students examine how sound strengthens the visual language, establishes a spatial environment, enhances relationships, and communicates emotion in the audiovisual world.

Course Objectives

  1. Create and plan sound design using script analysis and sound design maps.
  2. Listen critically, deconstruct, and evaluate audio in media.
  3. Develop a basic proficiency designing sound: creating original sound, recording, monitoring, editing, processing, and mixing.
  4. Utilize audio editing software and MIDI signal workflows in the post-production environment.
  5. Layer sounds together to create emotionally engaging stories with evocative sonic environments.
  6. Demonstrate sound’s ability to strengthen the narrative element in media.
