HIST-918 History of the Indian Subcontinent

The student will be able to describe the major features of the development of the Indian subcontinent history from prehistoric times up to the formation of the modern nation states. The course will include a detailed study of the subcontinent's geography and its impact on its various cultures, to include India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal. The student will be able to analyze the major trends of this history; early cultures and civilizations, spread of Buddhism. Hinduism and Islam, early European contacts, impact of neo-imperialism, decolonization following World War II, and the current status of the various nation states.
