ARTT-289 Contemporary Art

This course is an introduction to International Contemporary Art, covering the past twenty-five years of art, including the relevant art works of today. Throughout the duration of this course, students will participate in lectures, discussions, and field trips that revolve around the most common themes in contemporary art. Students will be introduced to a wide variety of artistic mediums and subsequently, sub-genres currently existing in contemporary art, as well as discussing the role of technology and the future of art. Students will access the work and apply critical thinking skills through reading and writing assignments and culminating with a presentation on a contemporary artist of their choice. This course will also offer opportunities for students to interact with local artists and art professionals. Topics discussed during the course will be examined on both a regional and global scale, which will encourage students to examine their own roles in the contemporary art world.
