ENGL-223 Writing for Screen Narrative

This course will teach the strategies and means to develop and execute narrative scripts with the primary focus on the short form narrative film. Emphasis is placed on students' increasing ability to employ the tools of the craft, including, but not limited to, story structure, mythic structure, plot, characterization, dialogue, format, story editing, and revision. Conventional scriptwriting techniques will be covered as well as critical approaches to understanding these techniques. Elements of the feature film form will be studied, extrapolated, and applied to shorter forms as well.
