AUTO 100 Introduction to Automotive Technology

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of automotive technology, service, and light repair. Key topics include the use of online service information systems, shop safety, hazardous-material handling, proper tool and equipment operation, vehicle hoisting, multipoint vehicle inspections, and routine maintenance and light repair tasks.

Course Objectives

  1. Identify major automotive vehicle systems, including engine, drivetrain, brakes, steering and suspension, electrical, HVAC, and engine performance systems.
  2. Apply shop safety procedures related to tools, equipment, hazardous materials, and vehicle hoisting.
  3. Operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment during automotive inspection and light repair tasks.
  4. Interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and electronic automotive information systems to support inspection and maintenance activities.
  5. Perform multipoint vehicle inspections and basic maintenance procedures according to industry guidelines.
  6. Document inspection results and maintenance activities using appropriate technical terminology and service records.
  7. Demonstrate professional workplace behaviors, including teamwork, communication, punctuality, and accountability, in an automotive lab environment.
  8. Apply professional ethical standards in automotive service.
